Why Being Based in Bwindi Matters

Many safari companies sell gorilla trekking from offices hundreds or thousands of kilometres away. We live and work at the edge of Bwindi Forest. We know the trekking sectors, the lodges, the guides, the road conditions, and the permit system because this is our home. That local knowledge helps us create smoother, better gorilla trekking experiences for our guests.

Why Uganda?

Home to half the world’s gorillas, 4 distinct trekking sectors, exclusive Gorilla Habituation Experiences, lower costs than Rwanda, and easy combinations with Big Five safaris.

Stay at Our Lodge

After a day in the forest, relax at Orugano Bwindi Lodge, our eco-lodge overlooking Bwindi Forest and the Virunga Mountains.

We’re proud lodge owners, but not lodge-only sellers — we’ll recommend whichever Bwindi sector and property best fits your permits, route and comfort level.

  • Minutes from the Nkuringo briefing point
  • Forest and mountain views
  • Comfortable private cottages
  • Locally hosted experience

Gorilla Permits Are Limited Every Day

Only a small number of permits are issued for each gorilla family. Popular travel months often sell out 6–12 months in advance. Uganda gorilla trekking permits are US$800 for foreign non-residents. A UWA low-season promotional rate of US$600 applies for May and November, subject to permit availability and UWA terms.
